How much of a role does Google / Gmail and all of it’s apps/extensions play in your life?
If you took any of the above apps away (following Facebook's recent 6-7 hour blackout event amoungst allegations for harming children's mental health) could you still contact loved ones, and manage your essential daily activities?
The truth is, many of us have built a reliance on these platforms in order to manage and maintain daily tasks in our lives. In most situations, these apps are free for us to use - and in this case, if we are not paying for the product, most often we ARE the product.
The majority of data on these sites is used/sold for profit to advertising agencies/used to create digital profiles of our personas without our knowledge or informed consent, and lord almighty knows what else.
Despite many of the above (and more) claiming to have privacy as a number one feature, time and time again this has been found to be completely untrue.
In the age of surveillance, censorship and cyber te-rorr-ism , it’s becoming increasingly more important to get a handle on digital privacy and develop healthy habits in terms of who and what we hand our personal data over to.
We are no experienced group of secret agents, however below we have compiled some of the most basic, private and secure alternatives we are using for digital communications right now in 2021.
Please feel free to comment below with anything we have missed.
1. Signal Messenger
An open source, secure & encrypted alternative for peer to peer communications. Endorsed by Edward Snowden, Signal is one of the best secure messaging apps available for free on both IOS & Android and can also be sync'd across additional devices.
www.signal.org
2. Telegram Messenger
Telegram is another open source and has added security when used on “Secret chat” peer to peer messaging. Telegram is well known around the world for it's capability for hosting channels and large group chats up to 2000 users.
www.telegram.org
3. Session
Session offers Beast mode encrypted chats hosted on the blockchain that leave no trace - no phone number required.

1. ProtonMail
Proton is a Swiss-based privacy-focused email service. Sign up without giving any personal details, and remain completely anonymous. Free & paid plans also come with the Proton VPN Service for use on up to 5x devices. www.protonmail.com
1. Proton VPN
VPNs sends your internet traffic through an encrypted VPN tunnel, so your passwords, location, and confidential data stay safe, even over public or untrusted Internet connections. VPNs are good to have running in the background at all times on all devices in order to scramble your IP address and hide your actual location. Proton Mail Plus membership includes ProtonVPN for use on up to 5x devices.

1. BRAVE Browser
Similar to Mozilla Firefox (worthy of mention), Brave blocks all trackers and has privacy at the core mission statement. Private windows incorporates TOR Browser (below). Earn + gift cryptocurrency and BAT tokens from subscribing to ads/visiting brave user websites. Comes stock standard using DuckDuckGo as an uncensored search engine.
https://brave.com/
2. Tor Browser (for PC)
Created in 2002, the OG private Internet browser, TOR - is important to understand when navigating internet privacy and security. The master piece of anonymity online, TOR blocks third-party trackers and ads that follow you. Any cookies automatically clear when you're done browsing. So will your browsing history.
The UX is still being developed and because of its high rates of encryption it can "break websites" and make them hard to navigate. As a substitute, TOR works well in combination with Brave Browser's private window - as mentioned above.

2. Onion Browser (IOS/Android App)
Encrypted through the TOR network, (TOR app is not available for IOS/Android) Onion browser gives you the highest standard of security and privacy on an IOS or Android device. Does not store any search history. www.onionbrowser.com
I just posted my public submission opposing the move for mandatory fluoridation & mass medication of NZ's water supply. Applications are open until 18 June 2021. Even a simple "I do not consent" makes a difference.
Make a submission at this link: https://www.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/make-a-submission/document/53SCHE_SCF_INQ_111711/inquiry-into-supplementary-order-paper-no-38-on-the-health
See my submission below:
To whom it concerns,
Thank you for the opportunity to share about the Supplementary Order Paper No. 38 on the Health (Fluoridation of Drinking Water) Amendment Bill
I do not consent to the proposed mandatory water fluoridation bill, which means the entire water supply in Aotearoa would be medicated with fluorosilicic acid (fluoride).
This chemical is a waste product of the phosphate fertilizer industry and has no place in the community water supply.
Since these silicofluorides undergo no purification procedures, they can contain elevated levels of arsenic — moreso than any other water treatment chemical. In addition, recent research suggests that the addition of silicofluorides to water is a risk factor for elevated lead exposure, particularly among residents who live in homes with old pipes. (links at http://fluoridealert.org/faq/)
Fluoride has long been known to be a very toxic substance. This is why, like arsenic, fluoride has been used in pesticides and rodenticides (to kill rats, insects, etc). It is also why the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) now requires that all fluoride toothpaste sold in the U.S. carry a poison warning that instructs users to contact the poison control center if they swallow more than used for brushing. http://fluoridealert.org/issues/dental-products/toothpastes/
In addressing the state of New Zealand's dental health, is not appropriate to medicate the entire water supply of the country with a chemical that is effective only with topical application.
There is no place for fluorosilic acid in the organs of the human body.
There is no need to put our bodies under the pressure of calcifying glands, organs and joints due to the build of up this chemical in the human body.
Excessive fluoride exposure is well known to cause a painful bone disease (skeletal fluorosis), as well as a discoloration of the teeth known as dental fluorosis. Excessive fluoride exposure has also been linked to a range of other chronic ailments including arthritis, bone fragility, dental fluorosis, glucose intolerance, gastrointestinal distress, thyroid disease, and possibly cardiovascular disease and certain types of cancer.
(links at http://fluoridealert.org/faq/)
64 studies have linked fluoride with reduced IQ in children.
http://fluoridealert.org/studies/brain01/
Most developed nations in the world have rejected fluoridation, including 97% of western Europe.
http://fluoridealert.org/content/water_europe/
Fluoridating water supplies can be fairly be described as a form of mass medication, which is why most European countries have rejected the practice.
Our soils, vegetables, and waterways do not need to be exposed to the copious amounts of this chemical which is added to the water supply.
Lake Taupo is one of the most pristine bodies of water in the world. The Taupo District Council adds approximately 3-3.5 tonnes of fluorosilic acid (fluoride) to the water supply per year. The council have admitted that fluoride chemicals are not being removed in Turangi’s Waste Water Treatment Process and are being added to the Hangarito stream that feeds Lake Taupo. This means that our pristine Lake Taupo is being exposed to potentially tonnes of hydrofluorosilicic acid per year.
https://fluoridefree.org.nz/campaigns/taupo-turangi/
This is a barbaric environmental tragedy in "100% pure New Zealand."
You can read more about these issues and see peer reviewed studies at this link.
Water fluoridation is an in-effective band-aid approach to a problem which is caused by lack of dental education and the cheap sugar packed drinks and foods which are available in almost every store in New Zealand - particularly in impoverished and/or vulnerable communities.
A better way to deal with tooth decay is to heal the problem at the root. Focusing on dental education, diet & lifestyle ambassadors in schools and television, healthy food initiatives, and perhaps most obvious -the regulation/removal of most sugar driven food/drink-like products on the shelves, billboards and advtisements of our entire society - in particular energy drinks, alcohol, fizzy drinks, and products with more sugar than actual food present.
Please take a look at this information before mixing our precious water supply with waste products from China.

In 2018, Pa awoke one night during a terrible fever, and was urged to write down what would later become the basis of the Tiwaiwaka principles. He thought about sharing these scribblings for some time… Months passed, and the words he had written down in the dead of night, seemed to be becoming more and more relevant in our world. Finally, he put together a short booklet outlining the core concepts, and shared them with a small group over a pot of Tataramoa tea (sleepy tea) one night during a wananga at Waitaia Lodge.
On the edge of my seat, each principle glistening crystal clear in his sharing, he painted a picture of Tiwaiwaka; a movement which would go on to bring together healers from all over the world, committed to restoring the mauri (life force) of the whenua. Pa explained how many indigenous cultures all over the world have a similar message passed down through generations, and Tiwaiwaka (named after the native NZ Fantail) was unique to Aotearoa.
Flying freely, she would, bring together people to share their gifts, matauranga (wisdom), skills, experience, and networks throughout Aotearoa. She would assemble many groups and individuals, all committed to realizing the common vision, each in our own way, regardless of culture, religion, beliefs, and history.
Based on the 6 principles, Tiwaiwaka would be a messenger of hope. A guiding light, a framework for learning to care for the natural world in our role as the Pōtiki (last born). Keeping the whenua well is always the first priority. We must learn again to live with Papatuanuku for the survival of future generations.
“Never before has there been a greater need for change, both in Aotearoa and around the world. The effects of an escalating climate crisis and sea level rises increasingly manifest themselves, pollution levels both on land and in sea continue to increase, and we are still battling with COVID-19 and the domino effects of the pandemic. Tiwaiwaka is focused on helping to bring about the change that is needed to start to turn the tide and give hope for the future.
In particular we want to help change the order of priorities by which we as New Zealanders live our lives. The priorities are set out in the Tiwaiwaka Principles.”
- Pa McGowan, Oct 2020

The whenua, Papatuanuku, is the source of all life. She is the Mother. Ka ora te whenua, ka ora te tangata. Caring for the whenua is the first priority. Everything else must be measured against this.
In Aotearoa, within Māori tradition, Papatūānuku is our earth mother. She gave birth to all things, including people, trees, animals, plants, and birds. She is a living, breathing, sacred being, and her forests, rivers, mountains, are her living tissues and organs that provide for us and support our way of life. The forests, her children - create the oxygen we breathe, her soils grow food, and her waters cleanse and replenish our bodies. When we look closer, we see that her wellbeing is intrinsically connected to our own health.
We cannot be well unless our land, forests, and rivers are well.
In our families, communities and businesses, we must begin to change our priorities in line with caring for the whenua first. We need to make decisions based on whether they help/harm Papatuanuku. Everything else must be measured against this.
We are not the centre of the Universe but we are part of it. All living creatures are our brothers and sisters, and we are the potiki, the last born. Papatūānuku is our mother. We must care for them.
Many indigenous cultures around the world knew and understood the great order of things.
In Te Ao Māori, human beings are the pōtiki (last born) created as part of a wider whānau (family) including plants, trees, birds, mammals and insects. The animals and plants we need to sustain ourselves are our tuakana, our seniors, and we must consider their rights even as we lay claim to our own.
For many of us, we make ourselves out to be the centre of the universe, and that is a great delusion we must confront and deal with. Clearly, we are not nature’s greatest achievement, with the birthright to dominate, take, destroy and control whatever we want, even when we call it a need.
Every living creature has rights, not just us. So do lakes and rivers, forests and wetlands, and all the living creatures, from the biggest to the tiniest, that make the earth their own. The first right is to live.
That means we need to give as much as we take, to maintain the balance of life. That’s known as the “Principle of Reciprocity”. It is the key to sustainability. In the long term to ensure our future we need to care for the other living creatures who share our world, and the resources from the Earth we all need to survive.
The mauri is the web of connections that sustains life. If any of those connections is weakened or broken the mauri is less able to sustain life. The integrity of the mauri and its web of connections has greater priority than the rights and needs of any individual or species.
Many kaumatua (elders) consider mauri to be the key to Rongoā Māori; it is the mauri that gives rongoā its ability to heal. The mauri is a life force - it is what causes something to ‘be alive’, and be what it is meant to be.
Western tradition talks about the body and soul - Māori speak of wairua, mauri, and tinana. In a real sense, the mauri is what connects the wairua (soul) and the tinana (body) in order so that a person may be alive. When that connection is damaged or altered, a person is considered to be in ill health. When it is broken, they are no longer alive.
Everything has a mauri: people, animals, plants, trees, soil - but not just living things - even a rock can have mauri, a house, a gathering of people, a place, a landscape. Even the country as a whole...
The mauri is the unseen web of connections that sustains all life throughout the cosmos.
We are part of the network of life, and that we need that whole network to thrive, if we are to thrive.
Te tangata, people, are not the masters of the mauri; we are part of the mauri and embraced by it. Our role is to care for the mauri. In doing so we are cared for by it. We find peace. We are at home.
We are in fact the stewards or managers of the universe.
It is not a licence to destroy, until there is no more. We are stewards charged with the responsibility to ensure that life continues to thrive. It is not God’s judgement that we must fear for failing to do that. It is the generations who follow us, those who will inherit what little we have left, and the rubbish and contamination that we have produced.
By being stewards of the universe, we are caring for others. We need to consider the effect of our actions and decisions on those around us, not just other people, but the whole living world of which we are a part, and the environment itself. Does what we do or what we take help the earth more that it hurts it? We have to honestly consider that. As the “masters” of the universe we need to accept the responsibility of maintaining the balance needed to ensure that life on earth continues to thrive. That’s what “caring for the mauri” really entails.
No individual person is more important than any other. Each must contribute what they have to offer, and receive what they need to be well. We are most well when we are sustained by the mauri, the web of connections that makes us who we are.
The Tiwaiwaka principles are not an obstacle to our ambitions; rather they are a pathway towards finding who we are and what we are, and in finding that, finding peace. We are one with the gift of life that empowers life. We are connected to the mauri, sustained by it, fulfilled by it.
By having less and sharing more we will in fact find health and wellness, and a real sense of belonging. That is something that wealth, no matter how great and how insulated from reality, can ever hope to deliver.
We give special care to the tiniest living creatures. Even though they are too small to be seen they are the foundation that keeps and sustains all life. Caring for them is caring for the mauri. This is the source of wellness, of sustainability.
We are reminded of the powerful role of the tiniest organisms, within our ecosystem both in our environments, and even in our bodies.
Our own health depends on the microorganisms that live within our bodies. Each person’s body is populated with billions of living creatures that are much too small to be seen; they work together to keep us well, or make us unwell if the balance is wrong.
Without them we would not sustain health, and slowly experience dis-ease from malnutrition. It is these little helpers that make available to us the many micronutrients we need to function. Our modern lifestyle, the things we eat and drink and even the medications we use affect them, and make it more of a challenge to stay healthy.
Keeping them well is the key to us remaining well.

Tiwaiwaka is a conservation movement in Aotearoa New Zealand, written by prominent Rongoā Māori practitioner Rob McGowan (also known as Pa Ropata). Based on the 6 principles of the movement, this series gives us a framework for fostering our interconnected relationship with the natural world, learning to care for the environment through our role as the Pōtiki (last born), and together, creating a clear pathway to a better future.

Maca root (Lepidium meyenii) is a cruciferous plant that has been used for centuries by the Incan people of Peru for its therapeutic properties. Known as an adaptogen maca helps the body better respond and adapt to stress to return balance to natural hormonal function. It provides strength and resilience to the nervous system and supports the master glands (hypothalamus and pituitary) that determine all of our hormonal responses. Consumption of maca can help those struggling with stress related conditions to rebalance their health and build resilience to stress in the future.
How does Maca work?
Maca actually works in the endocannabinoid system (ECS) of body. The main medicinal properties can be attributed to bio-active chemicals called macamides. These metabolites are completely unique to maca and are responsible for most of its adaptogenic activity. Scientific studies have now shown that the formation macamides actually results from a biochemical reaction that occurs during the traditional drying and heating of maca. For this reason it is important to ensure maca is cooked before use and never eaten raw or to purchase pre-cooked maca known as activated maca or gelatinized maca.
What are the health benefits of taking maca?
Clinical studies have shown that there are many benefits of maca powder including energy[i], mood and mental health,[ii] hormone balance including reducing symptoms of menopause and PMS,[iii] improving fertility,[iv] metabolic function,[v] sexual dysfunction and libido[vi] and in reducing levels of inflammation.[vii] Furthermore the different colours of maca have also been shown to be unique in how they work. Red maca for example is most effective for improving bone density[viii], female fertility[ix] and male prostate function.[x] In contrast black maca was shown to be the most effective for improving memory function, learning ability, brain clarity[xi] and athletic performance.[xii] For men, black maca provided the best increase in sperm production and function compared to the other colours and also in increasing libido.[xiii] Yellow maca is the most common form of maca and is considered neutral. It is used for general balance, well-being, resilience to stress and improving thyroid function.
What is the best way to eat maca?
Maca powder has a sweet and malt caramel flavor that combines well with spices, fruits and bitter foods like cacao. It makes a great addition to morning breakfast cereals, granola or porridge when sprinkled through. It is a great smoothie additive and mixes well with fruit juices or fresh fruit salad. Or you can consume it the way it is traditionally used as a tea infused with cinnamon, cloves and dried fruit or any other flavours you enjoy. Ideally you want to consume a teaspoon per day for a minimum 6-12 weeks to get the full health benefits.
Where can you buy quality maca powder?
Making therapeutic grade Maca is a blend of tradition, art and science. There are so many variables that can influence the quality during production and in turn alter the taste, texture and therapeutic properties of the final powder. We source our maca from The Maca Experts - a small Wellington based family business run by Dr Corin Storkey and his partner Sally Huapaya (Peru). They spend 3-4 months per year working directly with their farmers and produce farm to table artisanal maca following the ancient traditions of cultivation. They believe in superfood social responsibility and donate $2 per kg sold to a fund to help the children of their farming community. They run retreats to Peru to connect with both maca and cacao. Their maca research program in collaboration with the University of Victoria in Wellington works to bring credible scientific evidence to support the ancient Incan traditions surrounding maca and helps create premium and therapeutic products for consumers. Made with our NZ Grown Hemp seeds, and combined with Cacao and Maca, these balls are packed with protein, omega-3 fatty acids, iron, magnesium, and more. This is the original recipe from the OM Shack at festivals and events.
Recipe makes 10-12 balls.
For best results (and to hide them from plain sight) store in a tupperware container in the freezer.
If your pitted dates are too dry, they may be hard to process in the food processor. If so, soak them in boiling water for 15 minutes, then drain the liquid. You may need to get creative in pressing out the excess water. If the “dough” is too sticky to shape, add a TBSP of LSA and process the mixture again.
Modify the flavours by adding peppermint or orange extract.

Around the world, humanity is entering a chrysalis. An initiation. A metamorphosis, a deep change in society as we know it, into a new kind of civilization.
As a company, a business with core values of wellbeing, we have had to make some responsible calls. How can we best adapt to serve our community - right now?
One decision is to close the OM Shack for the foreseeable future - for a number of reasons:
1 - Ensuring health and wellbeing of our staff, customers and community.
2 - To support the movement of Aotearoa into a period of social rest and digest.
3 - As (like many other businesses) we can no longer afford to continue trading in this way.
This does not mean we won't be back - we are taking this time to rethink and restructure the organism we have grown over the last 7 years.
We are grateful to the New Zealand government for the massive budget (never before seen in NZ's history) set aside to cushion the blow for businesses and staff that will suffer during this initial period.
We know that what is happening in our healthcare and economic system is a direct reflection of what has been happening to Papatūānuku all around us. The Earth is a living, breathing, SACRED body, not a lifeless resource machine. She speaks to us in many ways, through the birds, the rivers, the ocean, the forests, the winds...
We are intimately interconnected with the health of Te Whenua. She can feel us.
Ka ora te whenua, ka ora te tangata - When the land is well, the people will be well. These are the values of the Tiwaiwaka movement.
For the inspiration. To restore our sense of hope. Everything we need lies right in front of us. And nature always knows what to do... and innately, so do we. Because WE ARE nature - nature being nature.
Already within the space of weeks we have seen canals turning crystal clear, polluted skies clearing to blue, all from the human race simply pressing pause. Taking the time to stop, and reflect... No more business as usual.
How can a business make financial decisions that are also aligned with the best ecological decision? How can we better utilize our energy to serve the community and our ecology right now? What are the possibilities for what happens next on a global scale?
Things will not be the same on the other side of this curve, and this crisis may very well be the catalyzing change that finally brings us all together.
Although we are in a process of isolation (or self sovereignty), we need eachother more than ever. Together we have the opportunity and the capacity to create something greater.
So take this time to take care of yourself, care for your loved ones. Put your health as the number 1 priority.
Take the time, (if you are lucky enough to have it) to reflect, to dream, to imagine what is possible.
Because we are powerful as f**k - and we're resilient as f**k.
Let's go.

]]>For thousands of years, men have circled up for council for various intentions... In a time when our Tāne (Men) are disproportionately leading world suicide statistics, conversations about mental health are more important than ever. Everybody knows someone struggling from a mental illness, and it is not always that easy to reach out.
"Something very special happens when men come together and get honest with themselves and with other men." - Steven Todd
Under Rākaunui (the full moon) this Brotherhood event will create a space for men to come together and share, experience, and dive deep into what it means to step into a healthy embodied masculine presence through witnessing, reconnecting and releasing old patterns, traumas and tensions from the body and mind.
There is a new paradigm of the masculine emerging, one that is uplifting our wellbeing, reclaiming our sovereignty and reconnecting to our divine purpose. Combining wellbeing elements of karakia, men's council, breathwork and yin yoga sound healing, we will co-create a powerful and safe environment where magic can take place.

Tiwaiwaka is another name for the Piwakawaka (fantail) from the Whanganui area of Aotearoa. This symbol represents a movement of healers, Rongoā Māori practitioners, conservationists, activists and all able people to restore the mauri (life force) of the whenua (land) guided by the 6 principles laid out in Pa Ropata’s (Rob McGowan’s) book entitled Tiwaiwaka.
Tiwaiwaka 30 Page booklet - Published 2019
100% profits support www.tiwaiwaka.nz
Fundamentally the principles of Tiwaiwaka are about survival.
These are the principles, the priorities, we must adhere to if in the long term our descendants are to survive.
Tiwaiwaka is about learning to live with the Earth, Papatūānuku and her many children again as a family, connected and united so that all may thrive.
Organic Mechanic is currently stocking a limited run of t-shirts, books, and art prints to help raise money for the cause - dedicating profits towards sending rangatahi (young people) to learn the ways of the old people in terms of caring for and being cared for by - te Ngāhere (the Forest).

Tiwaiwaka is out of the cage. She now flies freely. Where she flies to is beyond our control. We must fly with her.

#Repost Te Ara Whatu "In Aotearoa we can see already the effects of a changing climate on Papatūānuku. Our whanaunga all over the Pacific prepare for drastic and irreparable losses at the hands of corporate greed and unsustainable practice. We see youth, especially indigenous youth, leading the way towards a liveable future. We imagine what the world might look like if we come together, bound by the vast ocean, to create a world that is safe for our own mokopuna.
Today, across Aotearoa, youth are striking for the climate. More than keep cups and trees, we want our government to be held accountable. We want our government to take drastic action on climate change. Today the youth of School Strike 4 Climate NZ invite adults and whānau to join."

Greetings to our global family
This week is Te Reo Māori Language Week.
Time for us all to practise te reo!
9 - 15 Mahuru | 9 - 15 September
To celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori- we are releasing a limited edition flavour to #tautoko (support) this important celebration.
Intrdoucing Tī Kākāriki - our new "Green Tea" Kombucha brew, available in a 4 pack or 12x888ml box delivered free in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) for the month of Mahuru (September).
See it here: https://organicmechanic.co.nz/collections/om-kombucha
Te wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) has been celebrated each year from 1975 after around 100 years of prohibition in New Zealand schools
Te Reo Māori is a taonga (treasure) of Māori, guaranteed under the Treaty of Waitangi. But the Māori Language Act 2016 also makes clear it is for every New Zealander and a valued part of our national identity.
Māori language week is an opportunity for concentrated celebration, promotion, encouragement of the #revitalisationof this beautiful language, and every minute of every hour of every day is a Māori language minute – we can choose to use te reo – every time we do, even just a ‘Kia ora!’ contributes to revitalisation.
Kia kaha te reo Māori!
Stand strong in the Reo!

Kaitiaki (land protectors) at Ihumaatao are entering their third week of peacefully protecting the sacred whenua for future generations.
In the face of wind, rain, and constant police presence, they are holding the front line with peace, kotahitanga (togetherness, collective action, unity, solidarity), and positivity.
As the occupation continues, it is crucial for our community to show up, and to keep showing up. Here’s what you can do right now to show up for Ihumaatao:
When important events like this happen, journalists and media outlets tend to focus their stories on the kaupapa (cause, issue) for about a week before the media cycle moves on. That’s why we need to take action now - to not only maintain the pressure that has been built, but increase it.
It takes a full, diverse, and thriving ecosystem to sustain a movement. Each of us has a place within the interconnected web of communities taking action across Aotearoa for the protection of Ihumaatao.
Every action we take not only supports and sustains the kaupapa, but supports and sustains others we share this ecosystem with.
Take your place today by joining the front line, attending a solidarity action, or emailing our elected representatives.
Thank you for all that you do,
Via Madeleine, for the team at @ActionStation

This year, Organic Mechanic raised $865.00 for our whānau from Friends of Okura Bush contributing directly as part of over $35K raised at the Okura Forest Festival to protect one of the last remnant coastal forests and New Zealand’s largest estuary marine reserve.
For OM, conservation is a massive deal for us, as without our ecology, there can be absolutely no economy.
#OkuraForest is one of the last remaining native coastal forests north of Auckland until the hills of Whangarei - an ancient snapshot into the rich biodiversity of plant & wildlife species which call Aotearoa home - and it is up to our generation to protect it.
Join us and NZ renowned Artist/Activist Geoff Reid NZ on Sunday 5th May as we come together to learn more about restoring and revegetating the native forest/marine ecosystems by destroying some serious invasive plants that are threatening the last of the existing stands of indigenous forests here in Aotearoa.
10am til noon. Bring a plate for shared lunch afterwards. (optional)

One word - hospitality. These large kūmara were first eaten by the whānau and then any visitors to the marae. Visitors would marvel at the size of these kūmara, traveling home with word of the incredible hospitality, spreading the mana of the iwi far and wide.
The day of this brew was nothing short of powerful. Stunning periods of bright sunshine, interrupted by sudden torrential downpours of rain and hail. The wind flexed the trees to their limit and hungry waves devoured beaches with their white claws. Papatūānuku was alive and ready to brew with us.
Knowing this, there was a tangible well of energy available for us to tap into as we entered the brewing space. Again it seemed like time almost stopped. Through each motion of wiping, weighing, stirring, lifting, sweeping there was a certain lightness a certain unwavering flow.
The brews water table or energy was brought to the service as a reservoir upon which we were able to grow our version of big, energy packed kūmara. On this night the brew wanted to be brewed. She wanted us to capture her in her divine glory as an offering to our people.
In doing so we have captured our mana to share with you - our mana is one of love and empowerment. As you partake of this brew you do so as a respected and honored guest, welcome anytime. As you travel back to your own experience you will feel drawn to share your experience of the great Rākaunui.
